Terr-Bear

A year ago this week, I went to NYC for an international diplomacy conference for students enrolled in Model United Nations. I thought I would post some pics from that awesome week and talk about one of my good friends to commemorate the one-year anniversary of this adventure.

At this conference, we were put on different committees that actually comprise the UN and wrote various resolutions to solve global problems throughout the week and tried to get them passed. I really love political science and international relations. I think it's fascinating. This conference was one of the coolest things I've ever done. And yup, I am that much of a diplomacy nerd.

My partner was Terrance Kutney.

And he is one of my all-time favorite people.

I think we became friends because I realized that his brother was dating my sister's roommate and that was a good enough connection for me and I needed a friend. I sat down next to him during the second class and told him I decided we should be friends. He didn't protest. And soon enough, we were assigned as partners to represent Bangladesh on the General Assembly 1st Committee for this conference. When we got to the conference, I bestowed the nickname "Terr-Bear" upon him. The reasons for this are twofold: 1. He reminds me of a big, friendly bear. 2. He can be ferocious and tear things apart (figuratively).

So off we went to NYC with our class.

We had stellar seats at "Jersey Boys". I only had to turn my head 90 degrees to the left to see what was going on.

We stayed right in Times Square.

We ate French macarons and I died.

My fancy panoramic picture of where my committee met. There were about 250 people there. Only about 40% of whom spoke English fluently.

I got in a fight with a bunch of Italian students. A couple people ended up crying, they accused us of lying, they stabbed us in the back, my instructor told me to flirt my way out of it and highlight my "assets", I learned how to swear in Italian, it was a great time.

I made Terrance take selfies with me everyday.

One day while walking to the conference, a homeless man saw Terrance & I walking together and told him that he was "one lucky guy to be with that girl" (me). I yelled back, "You're darn right!". It's miracle I didn't get attacked in the street.

We ate at Momofuku. And it was incredible.

We snuck into the actual UN.

It was kind of janky. People had carved stuff into the tables. There was also no toilet paper in the bathrooms.

Terr-Bear & myself.

Towards the end of the week, my then-fiance now-husband came out to visit me. He likewise liked Terrance as much as I did upon finally meeting him. We will probably name our first son after him.

Excited That: We're going to the Pacers/Heat game tonight!!
Wishing That: I could skip the rest of my classes this week.
Should Be: Working on my paper.
Watching: Gilmore Girls.
Days Until Christmas: 273

  1. I'm honored. Especially by the whole "naming your first born after me" thing.

    1. You'll have to remain worthy, just so you know. But we'll see.

  3. I know right?? It was rough. Drew emailed me a few months ago and asked if I could come along again, I almost went but logistically it just didn't work out :( I was so sad.
